    It’s getting difficult to guess when to start fall seedlings with the changes in temperature. Who knows if we will have a normal fall season. I may have started too late at end of June, but I can set up a low tunnel if frost is early. In Z5a I need to have many crops in the ground before august as there is not enough daylight going into fall and affects getting the plants to finish.

    I have all my seeds out already and planned to sow seeds this weekend 👍 might need to pick up more beans though, since germination wasn’t great. Oh how I love a good green bean! I’m trying ‘Devil’s Ear’ and a couple other lettuces. They seem to be growing well. Can peas be started indoors? Or is it not worth the trouble?

      I moved from 8A to 4A so I'm seriously in garden shock. Carrots, patty pan, marigolds sprouted then laid back down. My tomatoes, Meyer lemon tree, grapes peppers ginger went to a kind neighbor whose daughter wanted a food garden. Beautiful little kind girl, it's all yours 🍇 🌶 🍅

    I'm so glad I remained subscribed to your e-newsletter, especially since we're so close in proximity. Most of the gardening "gurus" on YT that I've watched are not in our zone, so it's kind of a waste of time to watch their videos about when to plant what. I'm especially glad I watched this video as soon as I saw your email announcement of it. I literally just got my raised beds assembled yesterday, which makes me very happy. However, I was still sad about getting such a late start on the growing season. But I'm thrilled having watched this video now that I know there is still time to grow some of my favorite veggies and expect a harvest before the first frost. Sooooo . . . THANK YOU RICK!

    Also if I’m trellising my squash such as butternut and spaghetti. Is there anything I should be doing when I’m letting them climb. And start making?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening 3 дні тому

      Squash need some guidance while they are climbing so be sure to go out and move the vines where you want them every day to keep them growing and spaced well on your trellis.

  • @stevenr2789
    @stevenr2789 3 дні тому

    If I had to re plant my butternut squash and spaghetti squash would it still have a chance to make something before it gets cooler?

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening 3 дні тому

      It depends on where you live. Spaghetti Squash need 90 to 100 days, butternut need 100-120 days. So it depends on how close your frost is.

    • @54cal54
      @54cal54 3 дні тому

      You might be able to get a bush acorn 80 days or burpees butterbush 75 days in, like Rick said depending on your frost date.

    I’m still succession planting summer crops that do okay here (Texas z9a) but I start my fall brassicas mid August due to my frost date of Nov 30th. 😮 Plus I don’t have space in my temporary house (aka RV while we build our house) to start seeds indoors sadly. It’s so hard to have to wait! Fall and winter are the only time for me to grow any brassicas at all. Spring is too short here and they wouldn’t grow heads until fall anyways (if they survived the summer). It’s so interesting how different climates can be from just one state to another!
